Youth get hired on the spot at 'Peace N The Hood' job fair

On June 8, 2018,  Communities of Opportunity partnered with several organizations for the Peace N The Hood Job Fair for youth and young adults at Steve Cox Memorial Park’s Log Cabin in White Center.  Despite some rainy weather, 163 youth and young adults attended this year’s job fair, and more than 40 local employers and resource providers participated in the event.

The youth job fair is part of White Center’s Annual Peace N The Hood community event, which also includes music, food, and a 3-on-3 youth basketball tournament. Partners included King County Employee and Education Resources (EER), Communities of Opportunity, Southwest Youth & Family Services (SWYFS), WorkSource, King County Parks, and Educurious.

About 40% of the young attendees live in the White Center area, with most others hailing from South Seattle and South King County. Employers had the opportunity to interview some young candidates in private interview spaces that were a new addition to this year’s event. As a result, a number of young attendees received on-the-spot, contingent job offers. And, many more job offers are expected in the near future.
