Othering & Belonging Institute (OBI) University
Bridging is an ethic, a practice, a set of muscles and an orientation, and we want to help you do it. OBI has released the Fundamentals of Bridging — the first of four classes in OBI’s bridging series. It is completely free, you can take it with others in your community and whenever you like, and bookmark resources to return to later. It is part of their brand new online OBI University which also has classes on Belonging, an intro to OBI’s frameworks, all OBI’s resources on structural racism, and the full 2023 Berlin Othering & Belonging Conference.
The Fundamentals of Bridging is not your typical online class. It is led by Oakland-based choreographer and lifetime bridger Sarah Crowell, and features embodiment breaks, conversations with john a. powell and feminist philosophers Judith Butler and bell hooks, as well as deep insights from bridging expert and journalist Monica Guzman who has family members with very different political affiliations. And that’s just in the first of 4 classes.
OBI will be releasing the rest of the classes every week over the next 4 weeks. OBI’s goal is to walk you through a deeper understanding of what bridging is, why it matters for creating just and welcoming communities and structures, and literally, how to do it to build power for change.
Soon OBI will be adding regular live discussion sessions so you can join with others on the same journey.
