Transportation Justice Leadership Grant Program

Developed in partnership between Front & Centered, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and community allies, the projects funded by this grant will focus on innovative, community-led solutions aimed at reducing carbon emissions, increasing accessibility, and building lasting, equitable transportation infrastructure. Most importantly, we’re centering the voices and leadership of frontline communities—those who are most affected by climate change and transportation inequities—ensuring that these solutions are truly grounded in community needs and priorities.

Who Can Apply?
Applicants must serve overburdened communities, vulnerable populations, and people disproportionately impacted by transportation inequities, greenhouse gas emissions, and climate change. Experience with state grants, transportation, or emissions reduction is not required.

Grant funds must be used for low-carbon transportation improvements that benefit environmental justice communities in Washington State. All grant-funded work must be completed by June 30, 2025. No matching funds are required.

How to Apply

Applications are now open and will remain open for submission until May 15, 2025. Applicants will submit their project ideas by answering three preliminary questions on the JustFund portal.
Applications will be evaluated bimonthly as part of a continuous review and selection process.
