From the organizer, Africatown Community Land Trust:

Umoja Fest weekend is here and we can’t wait to celebrate Black community in Seattle at Umoja Fest 2024 : Africatown Heritage Festival & Parade.

In addition to the festivities that attract thousands to 23rd Avenue and Judkins Park every August, this year's event features an extraordinary headliner: the legendary Doug E. Fresh, the original human beatbox. Known for opening doors and creating groundbreaking opportunities for countless artists, Doug E. Fresh will headline Saturday's performances, promising an unforgettable experience.

The rich history of the parade and festival spans over 80 years, starting with community celebrations in the 1940’s that have grown through the decades, laying the foundation for the diverse community festivals now known as SeaFair and providing a platform for Black Seattle to celebrate its talent and vibrancy every year.

At its heart, Umoja Fest emphasizes the Swahili principle of Umoja, meaning unity. Each year, dedicated volunteers organize a dynamic lineup of activities bringing community together to celebrate culture, foster networking, showcase artistry, support entrepreneurship, and honor the history and heritage of the Central District.
